Is AI speaking before it can see?

AI is demonstrating impressive abilities in reasoning through complex questions. Yet when it comes to vision, AI has not advanced as rapidly as it has in language and often struggles to reason about even simple visual scenes.

This presentation explores what we know about the human mental processes involved in vision and introduces some of the ongoing research in this field. It concludes with an interactive discussion on what these processes can teach us about the different ways humans and machines reason, and whether similar differences can also be found in the language domain.

Lecturer: Assistant Professor Stéphane Deny (Aalto University)

Organised in collaboration with Institut français de Finlande
